Criteria’s
for lane assignments and lane promotions
Lane 1
Requirements
To be at this level, a child must be able to swim at
least one stroke legally unassisted, from one end of the pool to the other.
Goals
Introduce swimming and competition
in USS to the swimmer and family. Teach technique,
coordination, and rules.
Objectives
- begin basic competition (DN meets
and other meets as directed)
- learn starts and push offs
- learn to swim 25/50’s without
stopping for the strokes of FR, BK, possibly BR as well.
- learn drills which will help
swimmer emphasize correct stroke mechanics
- learn proper lane etiquette to
avoid accidents in the pool
- learn how to stretch before
practices to reduce injuries and cramps
- establish a foundation for the swimmier
to adapt to the training regiment.
- swimmer trains for one hour and on
assigned days
Lane2
Requirements
To be at this level, the swimmer must be able to
swim 2 of the 4 legal strokes in swimming.
Goals
Begin transformation of the swimmer to compete in
meets successfully without being DQ'd.
Objectives
- have swimmer workout for 1hr and
30 min.
- perform 5x100's IM without
stopping
- start practicing turns
- work on stroke technique for BR
and FL
- distance per stroke
- coordination on the swim
Lane 3
Requirements
To be at this level the
swimmer must swim at least 3 strokes and continue to advance in stroke
technique.
Goals
Establish a personal plan that will
follow the general program
Objectives
- begin to introduce LD base
- swim 200 FR at swim meets
- learn to swim 100's in all strokes and IM
- perform advance drills on all strokes and add
sprints
- execute competitive planning, have clear goals for
the swimmer to accomplish by the end of season (between coach and swimmer).
- begin speed sets, endurance
- introduction to strategy, race-pace, negative
splits
- increase volume of workouts
- extensive work on stroke mechanics
Lane 4/5
Requirements
To be at this level, Swim all 4 strokes legally, and emphasizing
stroke technique.
Goals
In these two lanes the main goal will be to start
developing the endurance withstand the energy systems.
Objectives
- swim competitively in major meets.
- use swimmer assessment to better
determine best potential of swimmer.
- technique, develop energy systems,
endurance and speed training
- begin increasing volume and
intensity
- strategy for all races

Lane 6
Requirements
To be at this level, all swimmers will know all four
strokes, dives, and turns.
Goals
Redefine goals from Green group to include training
for swimmer to attend
Objectives
- develop strategy to all races with hopes to
achieve
- consideration to move swimmers 15
yrs. and up to morning workouts as soon as possible
must be coordinated to be a smooth transition.
- attend all major swim meets
- develop foundation of training to
achieve
- goal setting is done at the beginning of the
season to range the capacity of the swimmer with the coache’s
own expectations.
